Shavonn Brown is an engineering leader, team transformation specialist, and tech community advocate based in Marietta, GA. In her 15+ year career, she's progressed from freelance web developer to engineering leadership, working across insurtech, SaaS, media, and fintech industries.

She holds a B.S. in Information Technology from Georgia Southern University and a Leading for Organizational Excellence certification from Georgia Institute of Technology. Her journey into technology began at age 12 with web development, leading to freelance work building websites for local businesses and nonprofits. She later transitioned to full-time development, progressing from senior software engineer to lead engineer, where she delivered high-traffic applications and supported live events.

Shavonn transitioned into engineering leadership in 2021, building her leadership approach around creating psychologically safe environments where teams thrive. She excels at identifying process bottlenecks and collaborating with teams to implement lasting improvements. Her particular talents lie in intentional hiring, developing junior engineers quickly without burnout, and transforming team dynamics through trust and accountability. She contributes to engineering organizations through improvement initiatives, including initiating mentorship programs, facilitating engineering manager collaboration, championing documentation standards and incident management, and serving on governance committees.

She actively supports diversity and inclusion in tech through mentorship and community involvement. Since 2019, she has been a member and facilitator with /dev/color, participating in their A* leadership program. She spent 18 months mentoring bootcamp students through Thinkful, helping over 30 developers transition into tech careers. She has also volunteered with Girls Who Code summer programs and maintains active membership in Women in Tech and Tech Ladies communities.
